Treatment of the Uric Acid Diathesis

To the Editor of the " Indian Medical Gazette." Sir,?After my long experience of the Uric Acid Diathesis, I am sorry I have to assert that 1 have seldom been able to permanently cure the diseased condition. I have treated hundreds of patients, and on various plans suggested by the most celebrated physicians, but I have seldom met with the desired end. Exercise, abstinence from nitrogenous food, purgatives and alkaline salts, warm clothing, &c., have not been attended with manifest success. Some patients have followed the directions given in systematic works on medicine and surgery for years, and they have not ceased to form and pass new uric acid calculi or gravel. As to any single attack of a fit of gravel, I have fortunately been very successful. I shall feel very much obliged if any of your readers will give me the details of a successful method of treatment by which the formation of uric acid gravel can be entirely stopped within a given period.
